There are so many different therapy services to choose from when considering support:

  1. General Therapy Options: Commonly a therapy session is 50-60 minutes long (depending on insurance, state regulations, therapist offerings, etc). This extends to sessions anywhere between 30 minutes to 90 minute sessions.

  2. Marathon Sessions: These types of sessions tend to be over 90 minutes and could be structured over multiple days. This service tends to be popular for people who are wanting more frequent support/but less than an IOP, couples & polycule therapy.

  3. Outpatient Programs: Known as IOP’s (Intensive Outpatient Program) or EOP’s (Extended Outpatient Program) tend to be structured as 4-6 hours of group services per week over a specific amount of weeks or months.

  4. Inpatient Programs or Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP’s): Programs such as some services Seattle Children’s, The Emily Program, or Northpoint Seattle offers are considered IP or PHP’s. These programs offer what is called residential services where depending on the program you stay in a facility that is supported 24/7 by mental health professionals.

It is important to note that your choices may change over time. Connecting with a mental health professional and reviewing which options fit this stage of your healing journey can help you identify which type of service is right for you.
